Reading your own draft
A manuscript reads very differently on an e-reader than in Word, and typos you have stopped seeing on screen tend to reappear.
Convert Word documents — .doc and .docx alike — into EPUB e-books that open on Kobo, Apple Books, Nook and any reading app. Your heading styles become a navigable table of contents, so the result behaves like a book rather than a document someone pasted into one. Up to 50 at a time.

Grab it within the hour. Download links expire 60 minutes after conversion. If you are aiming at a Kindle specifically rather than an EPUB reader, Word to MOBI Cyborg is the closer fit.
Free EPUB converters are funded by advertising, and it shows in the limits: one file at a time, a size cap, and a queue. If you are converting a manuscript you have been writing for a year, or a folder of chapters, the batch is what you actually need.
A book split into one file per chapter, a term of lecture notes, a back catalogue. Queue the lot instead of feeding them in one at a time.
Unpublished manuscripts stay yours. We don't track who converts what, and files are never handed to third parties.
Nothing is stamped into your book and nothing is held back for a paid tier. What you download is the file.
A 24-hour day pass costs €1. No subscription, no auto-renewal — enough to convert a manuscript and see how it looks on your reader.
Just need a batch converted today? Unlimited conversions for 24 hours. No commitment.
The price of a coffee, once — for a whole year of conversions.
Pay once, own it forever. Every future format and update included.
Every plan unlocks all 79 AppsCyborg tools — no ads, no watermarks, plus a 7-day money-back guarantee.

Free Word-to-EPUB tools exist because advertising pays for them, and the model shows: one file at a time, a size cap, a queue, and an upgrade prompt when you drag in a second. Installing Calibre on your own machine is a genuinely good answer and costs nothing — it is the same conversion engine we run — but it is a desktop program to install, learn and keep updated. Word to EPUB Cyborg starts at €1 for a day, installs nothing, and takes 50 documents at a time at up to 200 MB each.
This is the part worth understanding before you convert anything. A PDF freezes your layout; an EPUB deliberately throws it away. There are no fixed pages in an EPUB — the reader's device decides where lines and pages fall, based on the screen and the font size the reader chose. That is the whole point of the format, and it is why a good conversion is about structure rather than appearance.
Heading 1 and Heading 2 in Word turn into a real navigable table of contents, the kind a reader jumps around with. If you styled your chapter titles as headings rather than just making them bold and big, this works properly.
Someone reading on a phone at 22pt gets short lines; someone on a tablet at 12pt gets long ones. Neither is your layout, and neither should be — it is the reader's book now.
The old binary format from Word 97–2003 is handled too, with no need to open and re-save it as DOCX first. Both formats go through the same conversion.
Bold, italics, lists, tables and images all carry across, because those describe the text. Margins, page numbers and headers do not, because they describe a page and an EPUB has none.
No watermark, no advert chapter appended at the end, no banner on the cover. The EPUB is your book and nothing else.
An EPUB carries its title and author as metadata, and that is what your e-reader's library shows on the shelf — not the filename. Word stores both under File → Info, and almost nobody fills them in. If yours are blank, we name the book after the file you uploaded, which is a better guess than the alternative but still not your title, and the author will read as unknown. Thirty seconds in Word before you convert saves editing the file afterwards. The other thing to check is your headings: chapter titles need to be styled as Heading 1 or Heading 2, not just typed in a bigger bold font, because that styling is what becomes the table of contents.
Reading on a Kindle? Send to Kindle takes an EPUB and converts it for you, so this is the format to use. Word to MOBI Cyborg is for the other case — copying a file across by USB cable, typically to an older Kindle.

Almost everyone here has written something long and wants to read it, send it, or sell it as a book rather than a document:
A manuscript reads very differently on an e-reader than in Word, and typos you have stopped seeing on screen tend to reappear.
An EPUB opens on whatever they own and cannot be edited by accident, which a DOCX passed around a group very much can.
Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books and most distributors take EPUB directly. Convert, check it on a reader, then upload.
A long document with proper headings becomes something students can navigate by chapter instead of scrolling.
EPUB is an open standard built on HTML, so it stays readable without the software that produced it.
A reading app remembers your place, adjusts the type and works offline — none of which a DOCX viewer does well.
Whatever it is for, upload your documents and get EPUBs back.
