An EPUB is a book, not a page
This is the part worth understanding before you convert anything. A PDF freezes your layout; an EPUB deliberately throws it away. There are no fixed pages in an EPUB — the reader's device decides where lines and pages fall, based on the screen and the font size the reader chose. That is the whole point of the format, and it is why a good conversion is about structure rather than appearance.

Worth doing first: give your document a title
An EPUB carries its title and author as metadata, and that is what your e-reader's library shows on the shelf — not the filename. Word stores both under File → Info, and almost nobody fills them in. If yours are blank, we name the book after the file you uploaded, which is a better guess than the alternative but still not your title, and the author will read as unknown. Thirty seconds in Word before you convert saves editing the file afterwards. The other thing to check is your headings: chapter titles need to be styled as Heading 1 or Heading 2, not just typed in a bigger bold font, because that styling is what becomes the table of contents.

Will the EPUB look like my Word document?
No, and it is not supposed to. An EPUB has no fixed pages: the reading app decides where lines and pages fall based on the screen and the font size the reader picked. What carries across is everything that describes the text — headings, bold, italics, lists, tables and images. What does not carry across is everything that describes a page: margins, page numbers, headers and footers, and manual page breaks. If you need the layout frozen exactly as you built it, you want a PDF rather than an EPUB.
Can I convert old .doc files, not just .docx?
Yes, and you do not need to re-save them as DOCX first. Both formats are accepted and handled by the same conversion.
How many files can I convert at once?
Up to 50 per batch. Each result is named after the document it came from. One document comes back on its own; a batch comes back as a single ZIP.
Is there a file size limit?
200 MB per document, far more than a manuscript needs — you would only approach it with hundreds of high-resolution images embedded. A conversion that somehow runs longer than five minutes is stopped rather than left hanging.
Why does my e-reader show the book as “Unknown”?
Because the document did not carry a title. An EPUB stores its title and author as metadata and that is what a library shelf displays, not the filename. Word keeps both under File → Info, and they are blank unless you filled them in. When yours is blank we name the book after the file you uploaded so it is at least identifiable, but setting a real title and author in Word before converting is the only way to get them right — and it takes about thirty seconds.
Will my chapters show up in the table of contents?
If your chapter titles are styled as Heading 1 or Heading 2 in Word, yes — those become the navigable contents. If they are just typed in a larger bold font, the converter has no way to tell them apart from ordinary text and you will get a single unbroken book. Applying heading styles is the single most useful thing you can do to a document before converting it.
Can I read the EPUB on a Kindle?
Yes, and EPUB is the right format for it. Amazon's readers do not open EPUB directly, but Send to Kindle accepts one and converts it on the way in — that is Amazon's own supported route, and it is what they recommend now that Send to Kindle no longer accepts MOBI at all. The one case where you still want MOBI is copying a file across by USB cable, usually to an older Kindle; Word to MOBI Cyborg produces that. EPUB is also the native format for Kobo, Apple Books, Nook, PocketBook and essentially every reading app.

No. We don't run ad or analytics tracking on what you convert, and your files are never sold or shared for marketing. Uploaded documents are processed only to build your EPUBs and are removed once the 60-minute download window closes.
Is there a limit on how often I can convert?
