ONE PHOTO IN · SAME SHAPE OUT · NO WATERMARK

Shot last week, looks like 1974

Drop a picture in and get the film look back out: a warm cast, blacks lifted off pure black, grain, and a gentle darkening towards the corners. Same crop, same shape, full resolution — a colour grade, not a frame stuck around the edge.

Two steps. That's it.

Use it like any photo

market-street-vintage.jpg Same size · no watermark
Because the crop and resolution are untouched, it still fits the banner, the print or the profile slot it was made for.

It's a look, not a rescue The grade flatters a decent photo and forgives a slightly flat one; it won't save something out of focus or badly lit — nostalgia has limits. The edit is baked into the file you download, so keep your original: this doesn't touch it, and there's no going back from the copy. Want the white instant-print border as well? That's Polaroid Cyborg, and if you want the colour gone altogether rather than faded, BW Cyborg— both in the same account. Your download link stays live for 60 minutes.

Why not just use a phone filter?

Because most filters live inside an app that wants an account, crops your photo to its own shape, and gives you back something smaller than what you put in.

Full size back

Same pixels, same crop, same aspect ratio — nothing squared off or downscaled on the way through.

One consistent look

Every photo gets the same grade, so a set of twelve looks like a set rather than twelve moods. The grain is rolled fresh each time, the way film would.

Your photos stay yours

Nothing published, kept or used to train anything. Files go when the 60-minute link expires.

If you want to dial in a look precisely, an editor and twenty minutes will always beat a one-click grade — and if you already have a preset you love, use it. The case for this is the other situation: a folder of photos that all need to feel like the same afternoon in 1974, from a laptop, without a subscription, without a phone app cropping them to a square, and without the fifth one drifting a little warmer than the first. One look, applied the same way every time. Covered by the same €1 that got you in.

What people grade

Mostly things that need to feel older, warmer or more considered than the camera made them look.

Prints & gifts

Full resolution comes back, so the graded file still prints at the size you meant to print it.

A consistent social feed

One grade for every post, so the grid reads as a body of work instead of a camera roll.

Menus & shopfronts

A café or bar that wants to look like it has been there since 1962, using photos taken last Tuesday.

Weddings & parties

Two hundred phone photos from six guests, all pulled into one warm, consistent set for the album.

Band & release artwork

Press shots and covers that need grain and lifted blacks rather than clean digital colour.

Period design work

Moodboards, book covers and posters set in a decade the stock photo clearly wasn't taken in.

Whatever it's for, upload the photo and download the graded version.

Common questions

Files & getting started

What exactly changes in the photo?
Four things, and they are worth being specific about because they are not all in the same direction. Warm tones warm further — a skin-toned patch loses about 40% of its blue, and a saturated red about 60% — while blues and greens are largely left alone, so a photo made mostly of sky and sea comes back muted rather than golden. Blacks are lifted off pure black and highlights are pulled down from pure white, which is the faded part. Grain is added, roughly doubling the noise floor on flat areas. And the corners are darkened gently. Contrast is not softened, despite what the look suggests — it goes up slightly. What doesn't change: the crop, the aspect ratio and the pixel dimensions.
Is my original changed?
Never — you get a new file and your original stays exactly where it was. The grade is baked into the copy though, so there's no undoing it inside the downloaded file. Keep the original.
Which formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG, WEBP and GIF, up to 100 MB each, and each comes back in the format you sent. Two things to know: an animated GIF comes back as a single still frame, because only the first frame is read; and a completely flat image with no variation in it at all — a solid colour swatch, say — will fail rather than grade. If your camera gave you RAW or HEIC, run it through Image to JPG Cyborg first, which is in the same account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in the browser on a laptop or a phone — no app, no plug-in, no photo-network account.

What the effect does

Will my photo be cropped?
No. The crop, the aspect ratio and the pixel dimensions all come back exactly as you sent them — a 4032 × 3024 photo is still 4032 × 3024. The grade is applied across the whole frame, and the only thing that varies across it is the gentle corner darkening.
How is this different from Polaroid or BW Cyborg?
This is the colour grade only, with the photo's own shape kept. Polaroid Cyborgadds a white instant-print frame and squares the image off. BW Cyborgremoves colour entirely. Use this one when the photo has to stay the size and shape it already is.
Can I adjust how strong the effect is?
No — it's one look, applied the same way every time. That's the point: a set of photos comes out matching, and you don't spend the evening deciding. The grain is the one part rolled fresh for each photo, the way film would be; the grade itself is identical. If you need something tuned to one particular image, an editor is the right tool.
Will it fix an old scanned photo?
No — it goes the other way. This makes a new photo look old; it doesn't restore, sharpen, de-scratch or re-colour a genuinely old one. Running it on a scan of a 1970s print will simply make it look more faded than it already is.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes — pick the photo from your camera roll on Android or on iOS 12 and higher. Nothing to install, and no permission to your whole library.
Will the file get bigger?
Yes, usually two to three times — measured, a 119 KB photograph came back 296 KB. Grain is the reason: fine random texture is exactly what a JPEG compressor cannot throw away cheaply, and throwing it away is the one thing that would spoil the effect. The quality is capped so it doesn't run further than that. If it's going on a web page, Compress Image Cyborg will trim it.
Can I do a whole set at once?
Yes — up to 50 photographs in one go, and they come back together as a ZIP. Because there are no settings, the fiftieth is graded exactly like the first.
When does the download link expire?
After 60 minutes. Save the photo as soon as it's ready — after that the link expires and you'd upload again.

Pricing, privacy & rights

How much does it cost?
A €1 day pass gives you 24 hours of unlimited photos. Yearly is €6 and lifetime is €30. All three are one-off payments — nothing renews and nothing bills you next month — and every plan unlocks all 79 AppsCyborg tools.
What happens to my photo?
It's used to make the graded copy and then deleted along with it when the 60-minute link expires. Nothing is kept, published, indexed or used to train anything, and requests are anonymous — no ads, no trackers.
Can I sell or publish the result?
If the photo is yours, the graded version is yours — print it, post it, put it on the album cover, no attribution needed. If someone else took the photo, grading it doesn't transfer their rights, and a recognisable person still has a say in commercial use.
Still have a question?
