One library, two devices
The same files read on the phone and on an older Kindle, without keeping two copies in two formats.
Most phone readers take ePub now, but some don't — and a library already built on MOBI is a good reason to stay with it. This turns a PDF into a MOBI that reflows to the screen at your font size, with no cable and no send-to-device service involved.
No watermark, no reading account, nothing kept

On a phone, this is worth a moment's thought: ePub is the current standard and opens in more apps. MOBI is the right answer when something you already use is built on it.
Test one file before you convert a shelf. Whether an app takes MOBI is the sort of thing that is quicker to check than to look up, and one pass covers every tool here, so getting it wrong costs nothing but a minute. Two other things are worth knowing before you start. The conversion is a trade — a fixed PDF page becomes a river of text, which is excellent for a report or a novel and poor for a magazine, a two-column paper or anything where the layout carries meaning. And a scanned PDF is refused outright rather than converted badly: pictures of pages have no text to reflow, nothing here does OCR, and an image-only MOBI is not something we can promise your app will open. Send those to PDF to ePub Phone Cyborg instead, which fits the pages to the screen. Up to 50 files at 200 MB each, and your download link stays live for 60 minutes.
It opens them and renders the whole page, which on a phone means eight-point type. So you zoom in, and now you're dragging sideways to finish every line.
Lines end where the screen ends, so reading is scrolling or tapping — never panning.
Progress, bookmarks, notes and dictionary lookups behave as they do in a bought book.
No cloud reading account involved — useful when the PDF is a work document. Files go after 60 minutes.
A 24-hour day pass costs €1. No subscription, no auto-renewal — decide later.

Honest guidance, and it points away from this page more often than not. Your phone's own PDF viewer is free and fine for anything short. If you have a computer to hand and convert often, Calibre is free and does more. And unless something in your setup actually requires MOBI, the ePub version of this tool is the better default — same price, same account, a format that will keep opening. Come here when an app you already use, or a library you already have, is built on MOBI. The same €1 covers that and the other 78 tools either way.
A short walkthrough: a PDF in, a MOBI in your phone's reading app.

Not often, and that's worth saying. These are the cases where it is.
The same files read on the phone and on an older Kindle, without keeping two copies in two formats.
Moon+ Reader, Librera, KyBook — good apps with settings you've spent years getting right. No reason to leave them.
Forty minutes standing up, one hand on a rail. The only reading position a PDF genuinely cannot survive.
A hundred pages to have read before the meeting, and no laptop time left to do it in.
Reflowing is what makes a large font size possible at all. A zoomed PDF just needs more panning.
It's a file on the phone, so it reads on a plane without a connection or an app logging in.
Whatever it's for, upload the PDF and download the MOBI.
