Why a paid converter is the one worth using

Free converters bury you in ads, cap your batch size, watermark your output and monetise your files. Video to WEBM Cyborg is funded by you — so it works for you.

50 files in one batch

Convert up to 50 videos at once instead of one-at-a-time. No queue, no per-file wait.

Anonymous & private

No ad or analytics tracking on what you convert, and your files are never sold or shared for marketing.

Smaller files, no watermark

No watermark burned into your video, no ads around the download, and nothing is downscaled — the resolution and frame rate you upload are the ones you get back.

Free video converters exist because ads and your uploaded files pay for them — and they still cap you at a couple of videos, burn a watermark into the output, or quietly downscale the resolution. Video to WEBM Cyborg starts at €1 for a day, installs nothing, converts up to 50 files at once across 12 input formats, and never watermarks or downscales. No pop-ups, no ad tracking.

Phone & camera

MOV, 3GP and M4V

iPhone MOV clips and 3GP phone recordings re-encoded to VP9, so they drop straight into a <video> tag without a separate transcode step.

Windows classics

AVI and WMV

AVI and WMV files from old camcorders, screen recorders and archives. Neither plays in a browser at all; as WebM they play in every modern one.

High-quality containers

MKV

MKV rips repackaged and re-encoded for the web. MKV is a fine archive container but no browser will touch it — WebM is the one that will.

Web formats

WebM and FLV

WebM in, WebM out is a re-encode at our standard quality, useful when a file came from somewhere with an odd bitrate. FLV is the older Flash container and is effectively dead without conversion.

Legacy & broadcast

MPG and MPEG

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files from DVD rips, broadcast captures and old software, brought forward to a codec from this decade.

Animation

GIF

Animated GIFs re-encoded as WebM video — dramatically smaller than the GIF, with real video compression instead of a 256-colour palette.

All 12 inputs: MP4, M4V, MOV, WMV, AVI, MKV, MPG, MPEG, GIF, FLV, 3GP, WEBM, up to 50 files per batch. Output is always WebM with VP9 video and Opus audio — the pairing every current browser decodes natively, and the reason WebM files come out so much smaller than the source.

Converting a specific format to WebM

The exact conversion you came for, and why each one is worth doing.

MOV to WebM

Apple QuickTime Movie

iPhone and QuickTime recordings. No browser plays MOV natively, so this is the step between a phone clip and a working <video> tag.

AVI to WebM

Audio Video Interleave

Microsoft's 1992 container, still coming off old camcorders and screen recorders. Nothing on the web will open it.

MKV to WebM

Matroska Video

WebM is technically a subset of Matroska, so this is the closest of all the conversions — but MKV allows codecs browsers cannot decode, and WebM restricts it to the ones they can.

WMV to WebM

Windows Media Video

Windows Media's own format, refused almost everywhere outside Windows and completely absent from the web platform.

MP4 to WebM

MPEG-4 Part 14

The most common conversion here. MP4 plays everywhere, but WebM with VP9 is typically a good deal smaller at the same quality — which is bandwidth you stop paying for on every page view.

FLV to WebM

Flash Video

The container Flash video used. Flash is gone, so an FLV is unplayable until converted — and WebM is what replaced it in browsers.

3GP to WebM

3GPP Multimedia

The cut-down format older phones recorded to. Small, poorly supported today, and easily brought up to date.

M4V to WebM

Apple MPEG-4 Video

Apple's variant of MP4. It converts exactly like one — the extension is the only real difference. Note that DRM-protected M4V files bought from iTunes cannot be converted by any tool.

MPG to WebM

MPEG-1 / MPEG-2 Video

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 from DVD rips and TV captures. Playable on a desktop, invisible to a browser, and very inefficient by modern standards.

MPEG to WebM

Moving Picture Experts Group

The same MPEG-1/MPEG-2 video as a .mpg file, written with the longer extension — converted identically.

GIF to WebM

Graphics Interchange Format

An animated GIF is a very inefficient video. As WebM it is a fraction of the size with far better colour, which is why sites that still show "GIFs" are usually serving WebM behind the scenes.

When WebM is the right output

WebM is the format the web itself runs on. Here’s where that matters:

W

Video on your own site

A WebM in a <video> tag plays in every modern browser with no plugin, no player library and no streaming service.

R

Pages that load too slowly

VP9 packs the same footage into noticeably less data than H.264, and video is usually the heaviest thing on a page.

P

Background and hero videos

Silent looping backgrounds are the one place file size dominates everything — WebM is the standard choice for them.

F

Replacing heavy GIFs

A GIF is a 256-colour flipbook. The same clip as WebM is smaller and looks far better.

T

Open formats by policy

VP9 and Opus are royalty-free and open, which some projects and public-sector sites require outright.

S

Old archives headed online

AVI, WMV and MPG footage that no browser can open, brought forward in one batch.

Whatever the source, drop up to 50 files and get WebM files back.

Need a different format — or a different tool?

Need it to play on phones, TVs and editors instead? Video to MP4 is the universally-compatible option. Want a looping clip rather than a video file? Video to GIF. Need it smaller without changing format? Compress Video. Starting from a link rather than a file? Video Cyborg downloads the video first.

Common questions

Getting started

What is Video to WEBM Cyborg?
Video to WEBM Cyborg converts video files — MP4, M4V, MOV, WMV, AVI, MKV, MPG, MPEG, GIF, FLV and 3GP — into WebM. Drop your videos in and it hands them back as WebM with VP9 video and Opus audio, up to 50 at a time.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Video to WEBM Cyborg runs in your browser — no extension, no desktop software, no permissions. The encoding happens on our servers, which matters more here than on most tools: VP9 is demanding to encode and would flatten a phone or a laptop.
What devices and browsers are supported?
Video to WEBM Cyborg works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS 12 or later. Because the work happens server-side, a phone or tablet converts just as fast as a desktop.
Why is this better than a browser extension?
Four reasons: there is nothing to install and no browser permissions to grant; you can convert 50 files in one batch instead of one at a time; conversion runs on our servers, so it doesn’t slow your machine down or depend on your hardware; and we don’t sell or share your files, which is how most “free” extensions are funded.

Formats, batches & quality

Which formats can I convert to WebM?
MP4, M4V, MOV, WMV, AVI, MKV, MPG, MPEG, GIF, FLV, 3GP and WEBM — 12 formats in total. WebM is accepted as an input too, which re-encodes an existing file at our standard quality; that is useful when a file arrived with an unusually high or low bitrate.
What is WebM, and should I use it?
WebM is an open video format built for the web. It holds VP9 video and Opus audio, both royalty-free, and every current browser plays it natively in a &lt;video&gt; tag with no plugin. Use it when the video lives on a web page you control — it is usually noticeably smaller than the same footage as MP4, which is bandwidth saved on every visit. Do not use it as your only copy: phones, TVs, editing software and most social platforms still expect MP4, so WebM is the web-friendly delivery format rather than the universal one.
Why is WebM slower to convert than MP4?
Because it is doing more work. Converting to MP4 can often just rewrap the existing video and audio without touching them, which takes seconds. WebM cannot: it requires VP9 and Opus, so every frame has to be re-encoded, and VP9 is a demanding encoder by design — that effort is exactly what buys the smaller file. Long or high-resolution uploads therefore take noticeably longer here than on the MP4 converter.
How many videos can I convert at once?
Up to 50 files per batch. Drop them all in at once — no queue, no per-file waiting. There’s no limit on how many batches you can run while your pass or plan is active.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed size cap. Large videos simply take longer to upload and process, so use a stable connection for big files.
Will converting lose video quality?
WebM cannot carry H.264 or AAC, so unlike a container swap this is always a real re-encode — there is no lossless path. It runs in constant-quality mode at a high setting, so the difference is not visible at normal viewing size, and VP9 usually reaches that quality in less data than the H.264 source used. Nothing is downscaled: the resolution and frame rate you upload are the ones you get back, and no watermark is added.
How do I get the best quality conversion?
Start from the highest-quality original you have rather than an already-compressed copy. Every re-encode compounds, so converting a file that has already been through two or three services will show it.
Can I adjust the output settings?
Not currently — Video to WEBM Cyborg runs a single standard conversion tuned for a good size-to-quality balance, with no bitrate or resolution settings to get wrong. If you need a smaller file afterwards, run it through Compress Video Cyborg.

Pricing, privacy & limits

How much does it cost?
A €1 day pass gives you 24 hours of unlimited conversions. Yearly (€6) and lifetime (€30) plans are also available (+ VAT). Every plan unlocks all 78 AppsCyborg tools, not just this one.
How long does my download link stay valid?
60 minutes. After that the link expires and the converted files are removed — just re-run the conversion if you need them again.
Do you track or keep my files?
No. We don’t run ad or analytics tracking on what you convert, and your files are never sold or shared for marketing. Uploaded videos are processed only to build your WebM files and are removed once the 60-minute download window closes.
Is there a limit on how often I can convert?
No. While your day pass, yearly or lifetime plan is active you can run as many 50-file batches as you like — there is no monthly quota and no per-conversion charge.
Can I convert WebM back to another format?
Yes, with the matching converter — this one goes to WebM. Video to MP4 Cyborg takes WebM and produces an MP4 that plays on phones, TVs and editors. It’s included in your account.
Still have a question?
We usually reply within a day.
