What you get and what you don't. You get the words, cleaned up: paragraphs that the page broke across lines are rejoined, words hyphenated at a line end are put back together, and running headers, footers and page numbers are dropped. You don't get the design — fonts, colours, images and table grids are gone, because plain text has no way to hold them. Getting started

What is Extract Text PDF Cyborg?

A web app that reads a PDF and hands you its text as a plain .txt file. Drop the file in, download the words — no page limit, no watermark, no ads.

What format do I get back?

One .txt file in UTF-8 containing the whole document, named after your PDF: annual-report.pdf comes back as annual-report.txt. It opens in Notepad, TextEdit, Word, a code editor — anything.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — pick the PDF from your files on Android or on iOS 12 and higher. Nothing to install.

Quality & results

Will it work on a scanned document?

No. A scan is a photograph of a page — there are no letters in the file to pull out, only pixels. Rather than charge you for a blank file, the conversion stops and tells you the PDF has no text layer. A quick test before you upload: open the PDF and try to select a word. If your cursor won't highlight anything, it's a scan.

What happens to tables?

Tables come out as rows of text without their grid — plain text has no cells. If the table structure matters, PDF to Word Cyborg keeps it.

What about two-column pages?

This is the honest limitation. The page is read from top to bottom across its full width, so a genuine two-column layout comes out interleaved: first line of the left column, first line of the right, and so on. There is no reliable way to undo that from the text alone. For papers and magazines laid out in columns, converting to Word keeps the reading order instead.

Are accents and non-Latin scripts handled?

Yes — the file is UTF-8, so accented letters, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic and Chinese all survive; that was tested, not assumed. Very old PDFs with unusual embedded fonts occasionally produce odd characters; that's the file, not the conversion.

Do I get the images too?

No — text only. For the photos and figures embedded in the PDF, use Extract Image PDF Cyborg; for a picture of each whole page, PDF to PNG Cyborg.

What about password-protected PDFs?

An encrypted file can't be read, so the conversion stops and reports an error. Remove the password first in the app you already open it with, then upload the unlocked copy.

When does the download link expire?

After 60 minutes. Save the file as soon as it's ready — after that the link expires and you'd upload the PDF again.
