What is PDF to Word Cyborg?

A web app that turns a PDF into an editable Word document. Drop the file in and download a standard .docx with real, selectable text — no watermark, no ads.

Do I need Microsoft Word?

No. A .docx opens in Google Docs, Apple Pages, LibreOffice and Word Online too.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — pick the PDF from your files on Android or on iOS 12 and higher. Nothing to install. Editing a long document is still nicer on a computer.

Quality & results

Will it look exactly like the PDF?

No, and no converter can honestly promise otherwise. A PDF records where ink sits on a page; Word needs paragraphs and styles. What you reliably get is the words, in order, as editable text. What you do not get is the design: bold and italic are dropped, headings mostly arrive as ordinary paragraphs, and a two-column page is read across both columns, so its sentences interleave. Plain, single-column documents come across best.

Do images and tables come across?

Images do — they are pulled out at their original size and placed in the document. Tables do not: a table arrives as its rows of text, one line after another, not as a Word table you can drag columns in. Every figure and label is there, but you rebuild the grid yourself. Check any table you rely on before sending the document on.

Why are page numbers and running headers in the middle of my document?

Because we would rather leave them than guess. Removing running headers automatically also removes real content — on our own test contract it took out every section heading along with the header. So the header and the “Page 3 of 6” lines come through as ordinary paragraphs. Select and delete them in Word; that takes a moment, and nothing disappears without you noticing.

My PDF is a scan. Will it work?

A scanned page is a photo of paper — there’s no text inside it to pull out, so you’d get pictures in a Word file rather than editable words. Quick test: open the PDF and try to select a sentence with your cursor. If nothing highlights, it’s a scan.

What about password-protected PDFs?

An encrypted file can’t be read, so the conversion stops and reports an error rather than handing you an empty document. Remove the password first in the app you already open it with, then upload the unlocked copy.

When does the download link expire?

After 60 minutes. Save the .docx as soon as it’s ready — after that the link expires and you’d upload the PDF again.
