Why we're paid, not ad-supported
Most free MP3 converters are not built around the audio file. They are built around traffic. A page that promises instant video-to-MP3 conversion can earn money by stacking ad networks, redirect offers, analytics pixels, push-notification prompts, fake download buttons, and installer bundles around the one button you meant to press. The file may still appear eventually, but the business model rewards more screens, more confusion, and more chances to sell your attention before the MP3 is delivered.
Browser-extension converters add a different trust problem. To capture audio from many websites, an extension often needs broad site access or host permissions. Chrome documents this as a permission model where extensions declare what sites, APIs, and browser capabilities they can touch; that can be legitimate for power tools, but it is excessive for a one-off MP3.
