Two steps. That’s it.

1

Drop your photos in

JPG, PNG or WEBP
One photo or fifty — drag them in or browse for them. Nothing to configure: no sliders, no filter grid to scroll through.
2

Download the painting

The same greenhouse photograph after Painting Cyborg, with visible brushwork harbour-evening-painting.jpg Full size · no watermark
An ordinary image file at the size you sent it — post it, print it, or send it to a framer. Send two or more and they come back in one ZIP.

What makes a good one. A clear subject, decent light and a background that isn’t busy — portraits, landscapes, buildings and pets all work well. Brushwork means detail is deliberately loosened: fine print, distant faces and thin wires get softened, which is what makes it look painted rather than filtered. A dark or blurry photo stays dark and blurry underneath, so start from the biggest, best version you have. Prefer to choose the style yourself, from a painting you love? That’s Style Cyborg. Your download link stays live for 60 minutes.

Why not a free filter app?

Because the free export is small, has a logo across the corner, and the full-size version is behind a subscription you’ll forget to cancel.

Full size, clean

You get the picture at the size you sent it, with nothing written across the corner.

No account to cancel

A €1 day pass is a one-off payment. Nothing renews, nothing bills you next month.

Your photos stay yours

No gallery, no feed, no camera-roll permission. Files go when the 60-minute link expires.

Fifty at a time

A whole set of gift prints in one go, rather than one picture per ad break.

Filter apps are free until the moment you want the file: then it’s a small export with a logo on it, or a monthly subscription for one picture you wanted once. Doing it properly in an editor is genuinely better, and takes an evening and some skill. Painting Cyborg is a drop box and a Download button, paid for by the €1 that got you in — so nothing has to be paid for with your photos.

Gifts & prints

A photograph they’ve already seen, turned into something worth putting on a wall.

Pets & portraits

The classic commissioned-portrait look, from a photo you took on your phone last summer.

Landscapes & travel

Coastlines, hills and old streets take to brushwork better than almost anything else.

Invitations & cards

A house, a venue or a couple, painted, on the front of something you’re sending out.

Covers & posters

Artwork for a menu, an album, a poster or a book, without hiring an illustrator first.

Softening a snapshot

Brushwork forgives a harsh flash, an untidy background and a phone camera having a bad day.

Whatever it’s for, drop the photos and download the paintings.

Common questions

Getting started

What is Painting Cyborg?
A web app that repaints your photograph — brush texture, softened edges, worked colour. Drop a picture in, download the painted version at the size you sent it, with no watermark and no ads.
How is this different from Style Cyborg?
Here you bring photos and get paintings. If you have a particular artwork in mind, the tool that redoes your photo in its manner is Style Cyborg. Use this one when you just want it painted; use that one when you have a specific look in mind.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes — pick the photo from your camera roll on Android or on iOS 12 and higher. Nothing to install, and no permission to your whole library. Shots taken in portrait come back the right way up: the orientation your phone recorded is read and baked in before the painting is made.
What can I send, and what do I get back?
JPG, PNG and WEBP all work, and so do GIF, BMP and TIFF. Whatever you send, the painting comes back as a JPEG: brushwork has none of the hard edges that make JPEG compression visible, and it keeps a 12-megapixel painting around 1.5 MB instead of 4.7 MB. Transparent areas are filled with white, since a painting has no transparent parts.

Quality & results

Which photos work best?
One clear subject, good light, a background that isn’t cluttered. Landscapes, buildings, pets and single portraits are the reliable ones. A group shot taken from across a room has too much small detail to survive the brushwork.
Does the size of the photo matter?
More than you would expect. The brush is a fixed size in pixels, so on a small picture it covers proportionally more of the frame and the result comes out soft and shapeless. From roughly 1,500 pixels wide the detail holds; a 200-pixel thumbnail turns to mush. Send the file straight off the camera or phone, not a copy that has been through a chat app.
The face doesn’t look quite like them.
Painting loosens fine detail by design, and faces are where we notice it most — the same thing happens with a real portrait painter. The closer and better lit the face is in the original, the better it holds. A tightly cropped photo usually beats a full-body one.
Can I print it large?
You get the same pixel size you sent, so send the biggest original you have. Brush texture also hides print grain better than a photograph does, which helps at larger sizes.
Can I choose the style or the strength?
There are no sliders here — one drop, one painting, which is the point. If you want control over the look, use Style Cyborg, which takes a painting of your choosing as the reference.
How many photos can I send at once?
Up to 50, at up to 100 MB each. One photo off a phone takes about twenty seconds; fifty of the same size take around a quarter of an hour, because each is painted properly rather than run through a preview filter. Send two or more and they come back together in one ZIP.
When does the download link expire?
After 60 minutes. Save the file as soon as it’s ready — after that the link expires and you would have to upload the photos again.

Pricing, privacy & rights

How much does it cost?
Creating an account is free; you pay when you download. A €1 day pass gives you 24 hours of unlimited paintings. Yearly (€6) and lifetime (€30) plans are also available (+ VAT), and every plan unlocks all 79 AppsCyborg tools — with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
What happens to my photos?
They are used to make your paintings and then deleted along with them when the 60-minute link expires. Nothing is kept, published, shown in a gallery or used to train anything, and there are no ads and no third-party trackers. That matters more with family photos than with most files.
Can I sell the result?
If the photo is yours, the painting is yours — print it, gift it, sell it, no attribution needed. If someone else took the photo, painting over it doesn’t transfer their rights, and a recognisable person still has a say in commercial use.
Still have a question?
We usually reply within a day.
