How much smaller depends on what’s inside. Pictures are where the weight is. Measured on our own test files: a photo-heavy portfolio lost 92%, a report mixing text and images lost 97%, a 200 dpi scan lost 56%, and a text-only report barely moved at 3% — it was already small. What is Compress PDF Cyborg?

A web app that makes a PDF smaller without changing what’s in it. Drop the file in and download a lighter version — same pages, same order, no watermark, no ads.

Do I choose a compression level?

No — there’s one setting, chosen to give a big saving while keeping the document comfortable to read on screen and fine to print. Nothing to guess at, nothing to redo three times.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — pick the PDF from your files on Android or on iOS 12 and higher. Nothing to install. Handy when the portal you’re filling in is on your phone too.

Quality & results

How much smaller will my file get?

It depends entirely on what’s inside, so here are real numbers from our own test files rather than a promise. A portfolio of full-page photos lost 92%. A report mixing text with a few images lost 97%. A 200 dpi scan lost 56%. A text-only report lost 3%, because there was almost nothing there to remove. You see the result before you download it.

Will it still look right?

Text and lines are untouched and stay razor-sharp — they are not turned into pictures. Images are re-compressed and resampled to 150 dpi, so a photo zoomed to 400% may look a little softer than the original did. We rendered a scanned invoice side by side against the original and could not tell them apart at reading size or in print. If a document is going to a professional printer, send the original.

My file barely got smaller. Why?

Two usual reasons: it’s mostly text, so there was never much to remove; or it had already been compressed once and the savings were taken then. Squeezing a second time mostly costs quality rather than megabytes, so it isn’t forced — and if the result would have come out bigger than the original, you get the original back instead.

Do links, form fields and signatures survive?

Links, bookmarks and form fields come through, and so does every page, in order — we check the page count and the extractable text on each conversion. A digital signature is a seal on the exact bytes of a file, so changing the file breaks it — compress first, sign afterwards.

What about password-protected PDFs?

An encrypted file can’t be read, so the job stops and reports an error rather than handing you an unusable document. Remove the password first in the app you already open it with, then upload the unlocked copy.

When does the download link expire?

After 60 minutes. Save the file as soon as it’s ready — after that the link expires and you’d upload the PDF again.
