MOBI to EPUB.

Convert MOBI books into EPUB files that open on a Kobo, an iPad, a phone, a Nook — and on a Kindle too, because Send to Kindle has taken EPUB since 2022. Chapters, cover, title and author all carry across. Up to 50 at a time. One thing to know before you start: books bought from Amazon are copy-protected and will be refused, and no online converter can change that.

Two steps. That's it.

1

Upload your MOBI files

One book or 50 at once
Drag in a single book or a whole folder — from your phone, tablet or desktop. Books bought from Amazon are copy-protected and will be refused; the section below explains how to tell before you upload.
2

Download the EPUB files

EPUB novel.epub EPUB · no watermark
Conversion runs on our servers, so a phone finishes as fast as a desktop. A single book comes back on its own; a batch comes back as one ZIP.

Grab it within the hour. Download links expire 60 minutes after conversion. Copy the EPUB onto a Kobo or into Apple Books, or add it to Calibre — most readers take it as it is. Need the text as something editable instead? That's MOBI to Word Cyborg.

Why a paid converter is the one worth using

Free e-book converters are funded by advertising, and it shows in the limits: one file at a time, a size cap, and a queue. If you are moving a whole MOBI library onto a new reader rather than a single title, the batch is the whole point.

50 books in one pass

A backlog of public-domain downloads, a series you kept in MOBI, an entire shelf you want on a Kobo. Queue the lot instead of feeding them in one at a time.

Anonymous & private

Your library stays yours. We don't track who converts what, and files are never handed to third parties.

No watermark, no sign-up wall

Nothing is stamped into your book and nothing is held back for a paid tier. What you download is the file.

Try it for €1

A 24-hour day pass costs €1. No subscription, no auto-renewal — enough to convert a shelf and check the results on the reader.

What you get, and what will stop you

Both formats are reflowable e-books, so the conversion itself is clean — chapters, cover, title and author all carry across, and the result opens in almost any reader. The thing that actually stops people is not the conversion. It is copy protection, and it is worth understanding before you pay for anything.

Books bought from Amazon cannot be converted

DRM

Kindle purchases are locked to the account that bought them. No online converter can open one — anybody claiming otherwise is either lying or selling you something worse. We refuse the file rather than returning a broken book.

Books you hold DRM-free convert fine

Project Gutenberg and other public-domain libraries, Humble and StoryBundle purchases, review copies, books from publishers who sell without a lock, and anything you made yourself. These go straight through.

Chapters, cover and metadata survive

TOC

The navigable table of contents comes across as a real EPUB table of contents, not just headings in the text, and the cover, title and author arrive with it. Tested on every release rather than assumed.

EPUB is the format that outlived MOBI

2025

Amazon dropped MOBI from Send to Kindle at the end of 2023 and stopped accepting it for publishing in March 2025. Converting the other way is a shrinking use case; this direction is how a MOBI library stops being a dead end.

Nothing stamped on it

clean

No watermark, no advert chapter appended at the end, no banner on the cover. The file is your book and nothing else.

The honest caveat: copy protection, and how to tell before you pay

If your MOBI files came from Amazon, this page cannot help you and neither can any other converter — the books are encrypted and tied to the account that bought them, and removing that is not something we do. The quickest test is where the file came from. Anything downloaded through "Download & transfer via USB" in your Amazon content library is protected. Anything from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, a Humble or StoryBundle purchase, a publisher who sells DRM-free, or a book you wrote yourself is not, and will convert. If you upload a protected book we tell you that is the reason rather than handing back a file that will not open — but you will have spent a day pass finding out, so it is worth checking first. The other thing worth knowing: an EPUB works on a Kindle too. Send to Kindle has accepted EPUB since 2022 and converts it on Amazon's side, so converting to EPUB does not cut you off from the device — it does the opposite.

Why people convert MOBI to EPUB

Usually because the book is stuck on a format the rest of their shelf has moved past:

W

Leaving the Kindle behind

A Kobo, a Boox, a PocketBook or an iPad reads EPUB natively. Converting a DRM-free MOBI library is what makes the switch possible without losing the books.

R

A shelf full of old downloads

Years of public-domain books saved as MOBI because that is what the Kindle wanted at the time. Fifty at a time gets the backlog onto a format with a future.

P

Reading on a phone

Apple Books, Google Play Books and most Android readers open an EPUB directly. MOBI needs a specific app, and fewer of them ship with support each year.

F

Getting a library into Calibre

Calibre reads both, but EPUB is the format it edits, and the one that keeps working when you move the library to something else later.

T

Long-term archiving

EPUB is an open standard with an active specification. MOBI is a retired proprietary one. For a collection you want readable in ten years, that difference is the whole argument.

S

Sharing a book you wrote

If you published a MOBI years ago and want to hand out something a reader can actually open today, EPUB is the version to send.

If one of those is you, upload your MOBI files and get EPUB books back.

Common questions

Getting started

What is MOBI to EPUB Cyborg?
A web app that converts MOBI books into EPUB files, keeping the navigable table of contents, the cover and the book's title and author. Upload up to 50 at a time — nothing to install and no watermark.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It works on all Android phones, and on iOS 12 and higher. Conversion happens on our servers, so a phone finishes as fast as a desktop — you only need a browser.
How do I convert MOBI to EPUB?
Two steps. Drag your books onto the upload box at the top of this page — up to 50 at a time — then collect the result. One book comes back on its own; a batch comes back as a single ZIP. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure.

Conversion quality

Can you convert a MOBI I bought from Amazon?
No, and neither can anything else online. Kindle purchases are encrypted and tied to the account that bought them, and removing that protection is not something we do. If you upload one, we refuse it and tell you that copy protection is the reason rather than handing back a file that will not open. Books you hold DRM-free — Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, Humble or StoryBundle purchases, DRM-free publishers, anything you wrote — convert normally.
How can I tell whether my MOBI is copy-protected?
By where it came from. If you downloaded it through "Download & transfer via USB" in your Amazon content library, it is protected. If it came from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, a Humble or StoryBundle purchase, a DRM-free publisher, or your own writing, it is not. Calibre will also refuse to open a protected book, which is a quick way to check before you upload.
How many files can I convert at once?
Up to 50 per batch. Each result is named after the book it came from. One book comes back on its own; a batch comes back as a single ZIP.
Is there a file size limit?
200 MB per book, far more than a MOBI needs — you would only approach it with hundreds of high-resolution images embedded. A conversion that somehow runs longer than five minutes is stopped rather than left hanging.
Why does my book fail to convert?
Almost always because it is copy-protected. Books bought from Amazon are locked to the account that got them, and no converter can open them. We detect this before converting and refuse the file with that reason, so a failure here is usually an answer rather than a fault. If a DRM-free book fails, send it to us and we will look at it.
Will the cover and chapters survive?
Yes. The chapter list comes across as a real EPUB table of contents your reader can navigate, not just bold text in the book, and the cover image, title and author come with it. Both formats are reflowable e-books built on the same ideas, so there is little to lose in between.
Is EPUB better than MOBI?
For almost everything now, yes. EPUB is an open standard that Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books, Nook and most phone readers open directly — and Amazon's Send to Kindle has accepted it since 2022, so it works on a Kindle too. MOBI is being retired: Amazon dropped it from Send to Kindle at the end of 2023 and from publishing in March 2025. The one thing MOBI still does that EPUB does not is copy onto a very old Kindle over USB, which is why the other direction still exists.

Pricing, privacy & limits

How much does it cost?
A €1 day pass gives you 24 hours of unlimited conversions. Yearly (€6) and lifetime (€30) plans are also available (+ VAT). Every plan unlocks all 79 AppsCyborg tools, not just this one.
How long does my download link stay valid?
60 minutes. After that the link expires and the converted files are removed — just re-run the conversion if you need them again.
Do you track or keep my files?
No. We don't run ad or analytics tracking on what you convert, and your files are never sold or shared for marketing. Uploaded books are processed only to build your EPUB files and are removed once the download window closes.
Is there a limit on how often I can convert?
No. While your day pass, yearly or lifetime plan is active you can run as many 50-file batches as you like — there is no monthly quota and no per-conversion charge.
Still have a question?
We usually reply within a day.
