A macro is the right answer if you split the same workbook every week and your machine lets you run one. Most people don't: macros are blocked on a managed laptop, the snippet from a forum was written for an older Excel, and debugging VBA to save forty files is not the afternoon anyone planned. This is the same job for the price of a coffee.
What comes across, and what doesn't
Each sheet is lifted out of the workbook rather than copied cell by cell, so what you get is the sheet you had — not a table of text that looks like it.

Numbers stay numbers
ΣA column of figures still adds up in the file you get back. This sounds obvious and is the single thing most split tools get wrong — they hand you the values as text, and every SUM you write returns zero.
Formulas keep working
fxA formula that refers to cells on its own sheet arrives intact and recalculates as normal. Only references to OTHER tabs have to change, because those tabs are now separate files — see below.
Formatting comes with it
BNumber formats, currency, dates, bold, fills, borders, column widths, row heights, frozen panes and merged cells all survive, because nothing is rewritten.
Nothing stamped on it

Charts and comments too
✓Charts, cell comments, data-validation dropdowns, hyperlinks and pivot tables all come across. A pivot keeps the snapshot it last held, though it can no longer refresh from a sheet that is now a different file.
The honest caveat: formulas that point at another tab
Those cells lose what they were pointing at, because the other sheet is now a different file. Rather than leave you with #REF!, each one is replaced by the number it last showed — frozen, correct as of your upload, and still a number you can calculate with. Where a workbook carries no saved result to freeze, the formula is left as it is so nothing is silently emptied.

Most of the time it is not tidiness — it is that something downstream only takes one sheet at a time.

Getting started
What does Split Excel Cyborg do?
It takes one Excel workbook and gives you back one XLSX per worksheet, zipped. Each file is named after the tab it came from and holds that sheet exactly as it was — values, formulas, number formats, column widths and formatting included.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It works on all Android phones, and on iOS 12 and higher. The splitting happens on our servers, so a phone finishes as fast as a desktop, and nothing is installed.
How do I split a workbook?
Two steps. Drop your workbook onto the upload box at the top of this page, then download the ZIP when it appears. There is nothing to configure — every sheet is split.
What you get back
Which file types can I upload?
XLSX only. Older XLS workbooks are a different format underneath and are not accepted — open one in Excel or LibreOffice and save it as XLSX first, which takes a moment and costs nothing. You always get XLSX files back.
Does it keep my formatting?
Yes. Number formats, currency, dates, bold, fills, borders, column widths, row heights, merged cells, charts, cell comments, data-validation dropdowns and hyperlinks all come across, because each sheet is lifted out of the workbook rather than rebuilt cell by cell. Macros are the exception, and only because they live in XLSM files, which this tool does not take.
Do numbers stay numbers?
They do, and it is worth asking. Many split tools hand back the values as text, which looks identical until you write a SUM and get zero. Here the cells keep their type, so the file you download calculates exactly as the tab did.
What happens to formulas between sheets?
A formula pointing at another tab loses what it referred to, because that tab is now a separate file. Rather than leaving you with #REF!, each one is replaced by the value it last showed — frozen at the moment you uploaded, and still a number you can calculate with. Formulas that only reference their own sheet are untouched and keep working.
What are the files called?
Each one is named after its sheet: a tab called "Q3 EMEA" comes out as Q3 EMEA.xlsx. If two tabs would produce the same filename, the second gets a number so nothing is silently overwritten.
Does it add a watermark?
No. There is no watermark, no extra sheet appended and no banner across the first row. The files are exactly what you would have produced by hand.
Can I split just some of the sheets?
No — every sheet is split, which is what makes it one upload and no decisions. Delete the tabs you don't want in a copy of the workbook first, or just ignore the files you don't need. Empty sheets come back as empty files.

How much does it cost?

How long does my download link stay valid?
60 minutes. After that the link expires and the files are removed — just upload the workbook again if you need them back.
Do you track or keep my workbook?
No. We don't run ad or analytics tracking on what you split, and your files are never sold or shared. The workbook and the files made from it are deleted when the 60-minute link expires.
Is there a size limit?
500 MB, which is far more than an ordinary office workbook ever reaches, however many tabs it has. A very large file simply takes longer — a 40-tab workbook takes well under a minute.
