Why a paid converter is the one worth using

Free converters bury you in ads, cap your batch size, watermark your output and monetise your files. Video to AVI Cyborg is funded by you — so it works for you.

50 files in one batch

Convert up to 50 videos at once instead of one-at-a-time. No queue, no per-file wait.

Anonymous & private

No ad or analytics tracking on what you convert, and your files are never sold or shared for marketing.

Smaller files, no watermark

No watermark burned into your video, no ads around the download, and nothing is downscaled — the resolution and frame rate you upload are the ones you get back.

Free video converters exist because ads and your uploaded files pay for them — and they still cap you at a couple of videos, burn a watermark into the output, or quietly downscale the resolution. Video to AVI Cyborg starts at €1 for a day, installs nothing, converts up to 50 files at once across 12 input formats, and never watermarks or downscales. No pop-ups, no ad tracking.

Phone & camera

MOV, 3GP and M4V

iPhone MOV clips and 3GP phone recordings. Neither opens in the older software AVI is usually needed for; converted to DivX they do.

Windows classics

AVI and WMV

AVI and WMV files from old camcorders, screen recorders and archives. An AVI already carrying DivX passes straight through untouched.

High-quality containers

MKV

MKV rips converted down to something an old editor will import. MKV holds codecs AVI cannot, so this one is always a real re-encode.

Web formats

WebM and FLV

WebM and FLV downloads. Neither format existed when most AVI-only software was written, so both are re-encoded to DivX and MP3.

Legacy & broadcast

MPG and MPEG

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 from DVD rips and broadcast captures. These are close cousins of AVI's native codecs and often pass through without re-encoding.

Animation

GIF

Animated GIFs turned into a real AVI video track, which is what timeline editors expect when you drop one in.

All 12 inputs: MP4, M4V, MOV, WMV, AVI, MKV, MPG, MPEG, GIF, FLV, 3GP, WEBM, up to 50 files per batch. Output is AVI with MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX) video and MP3 audio. Files already carrying AVI-native codecs are copied across untouched; everything else is re-encoded, because an AVI holding modern codecs will not open in the software people convert to AVI for.

Converting a specific format to AVI

The exact conversion you came for, and why each one is worth doing.

MOV to AVI

Apple QuickTime Movie

iPhone and QuickTime recordings, converted for Windows software that predates QuickTime support or never had it.

MP4 to AVI

MPEG-4 Part 14

The most common conversion here. MP4 carries H.264, which AVI can technically wrap but old players cannot decode — so this one is re-encoded to DivX, the codec those players were built around.

MKV to AVI

Matroska Video

MKV holds codecs AVI has no way to store, so this is always a full re-encode rather than a rewrap. It is the usual step before importing a rip into an older editor.

WMV to AVI

Windows Media Video

Windows Media files converted to the container that Windows software of the same era handles far more reliably.

WEBM to AVI

WebM

WebM downloads from the web. VP9 and Opus cannot go into AVI at all, so the file is re-encoded — without which nothing happens and you get no output.

FLV to AVI

Flash Video

The old Flash container. Converting to AVI puts the same footage into something that still opens on a machine from the same period.

3GP to AVI

3GPP Multimedia

The cut-down format older phones recorded to. Small, awkward on a desktop, and easily brought into an editable AVI.

M4V to AVI

Apple MPEG-4 Video

Apple's variant of MP4, converted the same way. DRM-protected M4V files bought from iTunes cannot be converted by any tool.

MPG to AVI

MPEG-1 / MPEG-2 Video

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 from DVD rips and TV captures. These are close enough to AVI's native codecs that the streams usually move across without being re-encoded.

MPEG to AVI

Moving Picture Experts Group

The same MPEG-1/MPEG-2 video as a .mpg file, written with the longer extension — converted identically.

GIF to AVI

Graphics Interchange Format

An animated GIF turned into a proper AVI video track, which is what a timeline editor expects rather than a still-image sequence.

When you actually need AVI

Nobody picks AVI for its own sake in 2026 — it is what older software insists on. Here’s where that comes up:

W

Editors that refuse modern files

Older versions of Premiere, Vegas, Pinnacle and Windows Movie Maker import AVI happily and choke on MP4 or MKV.

R

DVD players and set-top boxes

A lot of hardware from the DivX era plays AVI off a USB stick and nothing newer.

P

Car head units and old TVs

Built-in players in older cars and televisions were built around DivX and Xvid in an AVI wrapper.

F

Industrial and lab equipment

Machines that were never updated often only accept AVI, and replacing them is not an option.

T

Software with a fixed importer

Analysis, CAD and teaching tools sometimes accept exactly one video format, and it is usually this one.

S

Matching an existing archive

When everything else in a folder is AVI, keeping the new footage consistent saves trouble later.

Whatever the source, drop up to 50 files and get AVI files back.

Common questions

Getting started

What is Video to AVI Cyborg?
Video to AVI Cyborg converts video files — MP4, M4V, MOV, WMV, MKV, MPG, MPEG, GIF, FLV, 3GP and WebM — into AVI. Drop your videos in and it hands them back with DivX video and MP3 audio, up to 50 at a time.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Video to AVI Cyborg runs in your browser — no extension, no desktop software, no permissions. The conversion happens on our servers, so even a phone can convert a large batch without slowing down.
What devices and browsers are supported?
Video to AVI Cyborg works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS 12 or later. Because the work happens server-side, a phone or tablet converts just as fast as a desktop.
Why is this better than a browser extension?
Four reasons: there is nothing to install and no browser permissions to grant; you can convert 50 files in one batch instead of one at a time; conversion runs on our servers, so it doesn’t slow your machine down or depend on your hardware; and we don’t sell or share your files, which is how most “free” extensions are funded.

Formats, batches & quality

Which formats can I convert to AVI?
MP4, M4V, MOV, WMV, AVI, MKV, MPG, MPEG, GIF, FLV, 3GP and WEBM — 12 formats in total. AVI is accepted as an input too: if it already holds DivX and MP3 it passes through untouched, and if it holds something older or unusual it is re-encoded into the standard pair.
What is AVI, and should I still use it?
AVI is Audio Video Interleave, a container Microsoft introduced in 1992. It is a box for video and audio rather than a codec, and by modern standards a limited one: no proper support for subtitles or multiple audio tracks, an index that breaks easily, and no way to hold H.264 or VP9. Choose it when something you cannot change insists on it — an old editor, a DVD player, a car head unit, a piece of lab equipment. For anything else, MP4 is smaller and plays in more places.
Can I convert a YouTube video to AVI here?
Not directly — this tool converts files you already have on your disk, so there is nowhere to paste a link. Download the video first with Video Cyborg, which takes a URL, then drop the downloaded file in here. Both tools are included in the same account, so it costs nothing extra.
How many videos can I convert at once?
Up to 50 files per batch. Drop them all in at once — no queue, no per-file waiting. There’s no limit on how many batches you can run while your pass or plan is active.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed size cap. Large videos simply take longer to upload and process, so use a stable connection for big files.
Will converting lose video quality?
Usually a little, and that is unavoidable rather than a shortcut. AVI cannot hold H.264, VP9 or the other modern codecs your file probably uses, so those are re-encoded to MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX) at a high quality setting — the difference is not visible at normal viewing size, but it is a real re-encode. Files that already carry AVI-native codecs, which mostly means existing AVI and some MPG sources, are copied across untouched and lose nothing. Nothing is ever downscaled and no watermark is added.
How do I get the best quality conversion?
Start from the highest-quality original you have rather than an already-compressed copy. Because most inputs are re-encoded here, a source that has already been through two or three services will show it.
Can I adjust the output settings?
Not currently — Video to AVI Cyborg runs a single standard conversion tuned for compatibility with older software, with no bitrate or codec settings to get wrong. If you need a smaller file, run the AVI through Compress Video Cyborg.

Pricing, privacy & limits

How much does it cost?
A €1 day pass gives you 24 hours of unlimited conversions. Yearly (€6) and lifetime (€30) plans are also available (+ VAT). Every plan unlocks all 79 AppsCyborg tools, not just this one.
How long does my download link stay valid?
60 minutes. After that the link expires and the converted files are removed — just re-run the conversion if you need them again.
Do you track or keep my files?
No. We don’t run ad or analytics tracking on what you convert, and your files are never sold or shared for marketing. Uploaded videos are processed only to build your AVI files and are removed once the 60-minute download window closes.
Is there a limit on how often I can convert?
No. While your day pass, yearly or lifetime plan is active you can run as many 50-file batches as you like — there is no monthly quota and no per-conversion charge.
Can I convert AVI back to another format?
Yes, with the matching converter — this one goes to AVI. Video to MP4 Cyborg takes AVI and produces an MP4 for phones, TVs and editors, and Video to MKV Cyborg archives it without re-encoding. Both are included in your account.
Still have a question?
